Wow is all I can say for the end of 2018. My OCR racers and I are now done for the year and boy was it a great way to end the year! These races were no easy feat, but we all managed to push through and accomplish what many cannot.
With one week apart, I managed to race in the final Spartan of the year in Castaic, California, where I was once again challenged to rough it out and get down and dirty, and the San Juan Bautista Double Road Race 10K.
Being that this was my first outdoors Sprint, not at a stadium, I was shocked at how much more intense it was than the others I have done, but luckily, I was not too dazed by the course. There were some challenging hills, but nothing like what I went through at the Tahoe Beast. Other than that, everything seemed familiar and easy to accomplish, now that I have had plenty of practice. I was however excited to finally see and experience my first ever fire jump before the finish line, no other races I have been to, have had that.
I managed to get a decent time of 1:20:37, but I hope to beat that next year at the San Jose Sprint in March, which I will be doing the day after my Super!
2018 was great, but 2019 already has 15 races lined up and plenty more are coming! I will be doing 2 Trifectas, running my first Full-Marathon (The L.A. Marathon), and will be continuing to challenge my OCR racers!
Well before I get too sidetracked by 2019, let’s not forget the San Juan Bautista Double Road Race (a day full of various races), which was held yesterday. I was able to bring six racers and out of those six, four placed top for their age group. We also managed to come home with one top female finisher trophy! (As a coach, I was proud of all of them!)
I myself managed to get second in my age group for the 10K race, and 5th overall, but was disappointed for not going a little faster. I was only 35 seconds from getting a personal record, but at least I can say that I am pretty consistent.
Now that these are out of the way, we, the OCR team and I, are going to continue training for the many, many more upcoming events in 2019 (i.e. Spartans, Terrain Racing events, more 5K’s, and much, much more)! We will be doing more weight room sessions, more cardio & running, and we will even be hitting up the local crossfit gyms for additional personalized training! It is going to be an exciting year!
Our next race is about a month away, The Mission 10, which is another day full of various races, so make sure to sign-up with the team and come join us.
Until the next entry, remember to never give up and push yourselves each and every day!
